And the Oscar goes to...

The anticipated event of the year, within the movie world, was the Oscars. And the star studded event was jam-packed with Hollywood's finest, but it wasn't just the outstanding performances on the screen that were the talk of the town, it was the red carpet, and what a performance that was!

From pale colours like white, silver and nude worn by the likes of Halle Berry to Celine Dion. There were also bursts of colour from succulent tangerines to sultry crimson reds as worn by the new Jennifer Hudson to Sandra Bullock, and the host for the evening, Anne Hathaway.

I observed a combination of traditional Hollywood glamour of beautiful gowns to more modern styles of elegance and sophistication to suit the glamorous night of the year.

So, for the Best Dressed Award, the nominees are:

Celine Dion arrives in a plain white dress by Armani Prive. This stunning figure-hugging dress sparkles in the light and the structured shoulders, and not to mention the stunning neck-line, is the winning cut as far as I am concerned. I salute you!

Typical Hollywood glamour from no other than Halle Berry. Wearing a Marchesa gown, Halle is positively glowing in this dress embellished with crystals over a nude bodice and tulle train. Sheer elegance.

Now, this dress caused a little bit of a pickle, but I loved this dress as soon as I saw it. Designed by Givenchy from their spring/summer collection for 2011, we saw Cate Blanchett push the boundaries by wearing a pleated lavender chiffon dress embroided with pearl, and the contrast of yellow gliding down the criss-crossed back was the winning point for me.

"Less is more" is a common saying for most things, but in this instance, it is it couldn't be more correct. Model, Camila Alves, dazzled viewers wearing a classic black dress by Kaufman Franco. Paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, flawless canvass and hair tied back from her face, Camila Alves was absolutely glowing in this plunging V neckline and near backless dress. She was the epitome of elegance. This dress is, as I would say, "Absolutely fabulocious!"

This dress was also the subject of criticism from some viewers, but once again, it was an instant hit with me. Gwyneth Paltrow waltzed on the red carpet in Calvin Klein. She sparkles in this gold metallic dress with subtle plunge neckline; I definetly believe she struck gold here!

No stranger to outstanding performances, Oscar winner for 'The Queen' in 2006, Helen Mirren, graced us with her presence in this fine gown by Vivienne Westwood . She was every bit the essence of British refined style of elegance. The puff sleeves were the winning tool - the ultimate fashion statement for me - broadening the shoulders to create a dramatic effect is priceless. I also loved the colour - gunmetal - the grey metal contrasts beautifully with Cartier's jewellery. An outfit fit for a queen!

And the Oscar goes to...
